College & Career Planning
Planning for College
Almost 70% of GC Tech graduates continue their education after high school. The comprehensive career and technical education students receive at Nassau BOCES prepares them for both college and career success. Many students graduate with industry-recognized credentials, college credits through articulation or dual enrollment opportunities, and valuable hands-on experience that provides a strong foundation for future study and employment.
College readiness requires the development of skills and knowledge that support success beyond high school. GC Tech students build these skills through a variety of opportunities, including:
- Direct instruction within their CTE program
- Annual college fairs and college planning resources
- Counselor-led programs focused on college applications, scholarships, and financial aid
- Presentations from college representatives and industry professionals
- College visit days and admissions meetings hosted on the GC Tech campus
- Visits to colleges and post-secondary institutions
- Collaboration between GC Tech counselors and home school counselors
- Access to technology tools and college exploration platforms that help students research careers and educational pathways
Planning for the World of Work
At GC Tech, students are also prepared to enter the workforce immediately after graduation. Through hands-on training, industry-standard equipment, and real-world experiences, students develop the technical and professional skills employers are seeking.
A key component of career readiness is Work-Based Learning (WBL). Our Work-Based Learning Coordinator partners with local businesses and industry professionals to connect students with workplace experiences that allow them to apply classroom learning in real-world settings. These placements help students build professional networks, explore career pathways, develop workplace skills, and often create opportunities for future employment.
Students also benefit from:
- Industry guest speakers and career mentors
- Workplace tours and field experiences
- Job shadowing and internship opportunities
- Resume development and interview preparation
- Networking with local employers and industry partners
- Industry-recognized certification opportunities
GC Tech proudly celebrates students who choose to enter the workforce or military service after graduation through our annual SkillsUSA Signing Day Celebration. Similar to student-athletes signing college commitments, this event recognizes students who have accepted employment opportunities, apprenticeships, military enlistments, or other career-focused pathways. The celebration highlights the value of skilled careers and honors students as they take the next step toward successful futures.
Whether students choose college, military service, apprenticeships, or direct employment, GC Tech provides the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to confidently pursue their goals.
