About This Course
Through hands-on training and classroom instruction, students gain the knowledge and skills required to become successful estheticians, Students who successfully complete both years of the program and the 600 hours of education will be eligible to sit for the New York State Board Licensing Exam for Esthetics. The program emphasizes safety, sanitation, and various treatments in addition to aspects of professionalism and business management.

- Anatomy and physiology
- Safety, sanitation, and infection
- Disorders and diseases of the skin
- Skin analysis
- Chemistry of skin care products
- Facial treatments and facial massage
- Facial devices and technology
- Hair removal, makeup application
Career Opportunities
Upon completion of this course, students will be qualified to seek entry-level positions in the personal care industries.
Beauty-related careers offer flexible hours and opportunities to work from home or to own shops or spas. Many graduates attend college and often use their skills to help pay expenses. Typical job titles in the field of esthetics include spa management, laser technician, facial technician, bridal consultant, brand ambassador, stylist and makeup technician. In addition to learning skills in the esthetics field, students learn other professional skills such as creating resumes, building digital online portfolios (websites), business and money management and communication skills. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be prepared to sit for the New York State Licensing Exam in Esthetics. Students must be at least 17 years of age at the time of testing to be eligible.
Uniform Requirements
You are preparing for college and a career. Students are expected to be in uniform each day and are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms. If your family is experiencing economic hardship, please contact the main office for assistance.
Students who are not in uniform will not be able to participate in the hands-on component of the lesson or enter a shop area. Additionally, not wearing the program-specific uniform will negatively impact a student’s work ethic grade.
All students are required to have black dress pants, a white button-down dress shirt (Oxford style) with a collar, closed-toe black shoes (loafers or ballet flats), black socks, and a black tie (for male students) for SkillsUSA competitions, school-wide events/competitions, and interview events.
