About This Course

Program curriculum has the flexibility of either Gen Ed or Skills depending on the pool of applications. ​

The Hospitality and Tourism program provides students with career-focused training in the following areas:​

  • Hotel and Lodging Management​

  • Food and Beverage Service​

  • Event Planning​

  • Travel and Tourism​

  • Professional Skills​

Certifications:​

  • ServSafe® Certification (food safety and handling)​

  • Nassau Country Department of Health Food Managers Training Course​

  • OSHA 10 ​

  • First Aid & CPR ​

Course available: Grades 11–12

Course length: 2 years/CDOS Eligible

Placement: Regular

Industry-Specific Skills​

  • Hotel and Lodging Management: Students learn about the operations of hotels, including front desk management, housekeeping, and customer service.​

  • Food and Beverage Service: Basic skills in restaurant management, catering, and food safety, often including culinary basics.​

  • Event Planning: Training in organizing events like weddings, corporate meetings, and conventions.​

  • Travel and Tourism: Students explore the business of travel agencies, tour operations, and destination management.​

  • Professional Skills: Focus on critical skills like communication, teamwork, time management, and customer service, all of which are essential in the hospitality and tourism industry.


Work Experience Opportunities

Students who reach all eligibility requirements may participate in supervised, real-world, work-based learning offerings that include clinics, shadow days, internships or paid Co-Op experiences at workplace sites such as:

  • Internships or job shadowing at hotels, restaurants, resorts, or travel agencies.​

  • Introduce students to the business side of hospitality, including marketing, budgeting, and customer relations.​

  • Graduates may also enter the workforce directly in entry-level positions, such as front desk agents, tour guides, or event coordinators.
