Enrollment Information
Students speak with the guidance counselor at their high school to apply. Each high school has their own process for approving applications at the school level. An application is entered into the BOCES portal by an authorized user at the high school. The application indicates the parent and the home district are in support of the student's application.
The application portal for the 2024-2025 will open in mid-February 2025. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Class sizes are limited. A limited number of students will be waitlisted for each program. Students who are not accepted for their first or second choice may edit their application to be considered for additional choices. Students may apply to programs at Barry Tech, GC Tech and/or Long Island High School for the Arts on the same application. Please note that the Long Island High School for the Arts has additional requirements regarding portfolios and auditions. Details about their process can be found here.
If a student is accepted to a program and changes their mind about attending the program before the school year begins, they must immediately notify the home school guidance counselor to submit a withdrawal. Once the school year starts, any changes require a Program Change/Add Form. This will open the seat to another interested student and will adjust data for district billing accordingly.
Admission and Placement
Every student application packet is read thoroughly by a site-specific committee. The committee conducts a comprehensive review of the student's school records including attendance, transcripts, report cards, test scores, comments from school personnel, and a health record. The admissions process is a cooperative effort which involves the high school counselor and Nassau BOCES staff working together to provide students with appropriate course placement. We strongly encourage interested students to attend Open House and Taste of Tech events.
